Lions Clubs present ‘outstanding personality´ award

CHENNAI: The Lions Clubs International District 324 A5 and District A6 presented the ‘outstanding personality award´ to five persons for their contribution to society and communal harmony, at a function on Wednesday. The function was held as part of their national integration celebration.

Madras High Court Judge S. Tamilvanan presided and distributed the awards.

The recipients were president of Cosmic Foundation K. Venkatesan, vice-president Islamic Foundation Trust K.V.S. Habeeb Muhammad, president of World Peace and Friendship Council G. Manilal, Lions Club of Chennai Town president P. Thangaraj and administration manager of PMR Education Trust S. Govindraj.

National integration
Highlighting the significance of national integration, Mr. Tamilvanan said such events would nurture patriotism and develop communal harmony among children. He also spoke about national leaders, including Mahatma Gandhi, who strived for peace.

While Mr. Muhammad spoke about the need to eliminate obstacles to communal harmony, Mr.Venkatesan highlighted the importance of developing scientific temperament among children for the nation´s progress.

Lions Club district chairperson (national integration) K. Srinivasan said the festival was being held for 15th consecutive year with an aim to honour various personalities, who were involved in social service and also reach out to the children and spread the message of national integration.

Earlier, students from various schools participated in a cultural programme on national integration. Lions Clubs vice district governor 324 A6 P. Rajamahendran and Lions Club of Chennai Gateway secretary G.K. Nagaraj also participated.
